As quasi-UPLC systems have become increasingly popular, if the wrong tubing specifications and connector models are selected when switching column particle sizes, the excessive dead volume before the column can lead to deteriorated peak shapes and reduced column efficiency.

Moreover, traditional stainless steel fittings or front-mounted hand-tightening fittings cannot accommodate columns from all brands after installation, often leading to 2 types of problems:

Leakage during use caused by excessively long pipelines or mismatched sealing rings;

2. The excessively short extension of the tubing leads to increased dead volume and degraded peak shape.

Based on market feedback regarding the first 2 generations of HanKing hand-tightening connectors, combined with the demand for products capable of withstanding pressures up to 1200 bar, we have further optimized and upgraded our product portfolio.

Compared to the 400-bar JointC hand-tightening connector, which features a PEEK blade ring as its sealing core, this new 1200-bar JointD hand-tightening connector assembly incorporates a sealing gasket housed within a capillary tube, creating a bellows-like structure. After tightening, this design achieves dual sealing—both at the flat surface and along the sides—minimizing dead volume to the greatest extent possible and optimizing the repeated insertion and removal lifespan to over 150 cycles. Moreover, thanks to our long-standing commitment to a modular structural design, both the capillary tubing and the connector itself can be replaced independently, significantly reducing users’ operating costs.

Capillary Fitting Assembly for 400 bar HPLC

We generally recommend that users employ one of two common configurations: either both ends feature hand-tightened connectors, or one end is equipped with a hand-tightened connector while the other end has a standard metal connector. Different capillaries are available—typically, 0.17 mm capillaries are suitable for Agilent HPLC systems, whereas 0.18 mm capillaries are better suited for HPLC systems from other brands such as Waters, Thermo, and Shimadzu. To ensure proper compatibility with various connecting components, we recommend selecting an appropriate capillary length to avoid unnecessary extra pre-column volume.
