Borneol content in borneol

Borneol Also known as brain of mugwort, mandarin orange peel, artemisia oil, camphor tree, plum-flower borneol, jia bu luo incense, plum-flower brain, ice-flower brain, and plum ice, these substances are obtained by steam distillation followed by recrystallization of the stems and leaves of Artemisia annua (Asteraceae) or the branches and leaves of Cinnamomum camphora (Lauraceae). Their chemical composition is 2-camphorol, with the chemical formula C. 10 H 18 O. Borneol is a commonly used medicinal ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine, categorized into natural borneol (camphor) and synthetic borneol (mechanically produced borneol). It has a pungent, bitter, and slightly cold taste, and enters the Heart, Spleen, and Lung meridians. Borneol possesses effects such as opening the orifices and reviving consciousness, clearing heat and relieving pain, and acting as an antiseptic to promote tissue regeneration. It is widely employed in both internal and external applications of traditional Chinese medicine as well as in modern pharmaceutical preparations.

Shanghai HanKing Selection HK-WAX GC Column The content of borneol in camphor was determined and compared with... Agilent DB-WAX for test comparison

Source of method: Chinese Pharmacopoeia, 2020 Edition

Chromatographic conditions

Column: HK-WAX (30 m × 0.32 mm × 0.25 μm)

Detector: FID detector

Injection port temperature: 200℃, split ratio 50:1

Detector temperature: 220℃

Constant temperature: 140℃, operating time: 10 minutes

Detection Spectrum

Conclusion

Select HK-WAX GC Column The content of borneol in camphor was tested and met the detection requirements. Compared with Agilent DB-WAX, The peak shape and theoretical plate number of the borneol chromatographic peak are essentially identical. There is a slight difference in retention times.
