Detection of Eight Organochlorine Pesticide Residues in Ginseng Using Gas Chromatography
Organochlorine pesticides With its lipophilic properties and high stability, it tends to accumulate persistently in human adipose tissue. Its metabolic rate is slow, and its cumulative effects can trigger neurological disorders, immune dysfunction, and pose a clear carcinogenic risk. These pesticides, by blocking nerve signal transmission or disrupting hormone secretion, may lead to developmental abnormalities of the brain—especially in children—slowed reaction times, and endocrine disruptions. Organochlorines can remain in soil and water bodies for decades, gradually accumulating through the food chain and eventually reaching hazardous concentrations in higher organisms. Once accumulated in the human body, organochlorines can be passed on to infants via breast milk, while poultry can transfer them into eggs, thus posing intergenerational health threats.
Shanghai HanKing Selection HK-5 GC Column 8 organochlorine pesticide residues in ginseng were detected and compared with... Agilent HP-5 for test comparison 。
Chromatographic conditions
Column: HK-5 (30 m × 0.32 mm × 0.25 μm)
Detector: ECD Detector
Injection port temperature: 230℃ , non-split injection
Detector temperature: 300℃
The column temperature is programmed to increase gradually: Initial temperature: 60℃, hold for 0.3 minutes; then increase at a rate of 60℃ per minute to 170℃; next, increase at a rate of 10℃ per minute to 220℃, hold for 10 minutes; then increase at a rate of 1℃ per minute to 240℃, followed by an increase at a rate of 15℃ per minute to 280℃, and hold for 5 minutes.

Conclusion
Select HK-5 GC Column The residues of eight organochlorine pesticides in ginseng were detected and met the required detection standards. Compared with Agilent HP-5, The theoretical plate numbers and separation performance of the chromatographic peaks are essentially the same.
